Tap Department - Class Descriptions

Beginning
An introduction to Tap.  Age: 2-3, 4-6, 7-10 and 11+ years.

Advanced Beginning
For students with at least one year of training.  Age: 5-7, 8-11 and 12+ years.

Elementary
Students with at least 2 years experience. Age: optional.

Intermediate
Students with at leat 4 years experience. Teacher placement required. Age: optional.

Elementary Technique
Recommended for all Elementary Tap students.

Intermediate and Combined Technique
Recommended for all Intermediate Tap students and required for all Competition Tap students.

Color Levels Tap
For students with various years of training. Age: optional. Placement by audition only.

Adult Beginning
This class offers beginning steps for new students and continues basic skills, technique, and further step development for students with up to 2 years training. Age: optional.

Adult Intermediate/Advanced
For students with two or more years of training. This level places an emphasis on tap technique with more challenging steps and routines. Age: optional.


Jazz Department - Class Descriptions

Beginning-Advanced Beginning
As an introduction to jazz, students will be instructed on coordination, placement and flexibility. Skills are broken down and taught for complete comprehension. This level is designed to focus on the foundation and basics of jazz dance. All ages from 5 up. Divided by age.

Elementary
At least 3 or more years of training. This level continues on skill development, while increasing strength and self-esteem. Classes are broken out based on years of training and or comprehension of the basics.

Intermediate
At least 5 or more years of training. These are established classes with new student participation subject to Teacher approval. This level introduces multiple turns, basic tricks and leaps while continuing to practice placement, poise and coordination. Speed and strength levels should be at an increased level. Technique class is recommended.  Ages 11+ years.

Elementary and Intermediate Technique
Recommended for all Elementary and Intermediate Jazz students. This class is designed to help the student excel as well as challenge them with new moves. Flexibility, proper placement, strength and over-all conditioning is the focus. Turns, Leaps and Tricks will be worked on at a more consistent rate.

Color Levels Jazz
At least 6 or more years of training. Basics and solid foundation of all jazz dance aspects should be clear and well displayed. Skill advancement, strength of moves, variety of styles and steps will be taught. Placement by audition only. Competitive classes.

Level A & B Technique
Required for all Competition Jazz students.Placement by instructor.

Lyrical
The fusion of ballet and jazz technique. Must have had previous jazz and ballet experience. Age: 10+ years.

Stretch
This class helps students gain lithe and length with a 60 minute stretch dedicated to developing a greater range of motion that is crucial for dancers grace and safety. Required for all Competition Jazz students.

Adult
For adults with all levels of Jazz experience.

College Jazz
Class designed for experienced dancers wanting to continue their dancing. Age: 18+ years.

Contemporary Lyrical
Compilation of different styles of dance including lyrical, classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance. While technique is strongly emphasized, complex and intricate choreography is used to tell a story through expressive movement. Students will learn to use their bodies to their full capacities while exploring emotion and self-expression.


Hip-Hop Department - Class Descriptions

Beginning
In this class you are introduced to the basics of hip hop. Learning about keeping rhythm, hitting beats and strengthening arms, and most of all working on performance skills. For ages 5-9 yrs. Typical Class Structure: Warm-up/stretching/basic steps/dance routine/cool down.

Advanced Beginning
Continues with basics and warm up, developing strength, skills and isloated moves on a higher level. Ages: 8-10 years.

Elementary
For students with at least 2-3 years of training. Focus on comprehension of basics and body strengthening.

Intermediate
This class will teach you how to shed your inhibitions and move like never before, you will learn how to glide, lock, and break, by combining street-styles and funk together. Age 13 and older. Typical Class Structure: warm-up/stretch/basic steps/dance routine/muscle strengthening/cool down.

All Boy's
This class is geared toward street dance with more focus being on strengthening the upper body, and becoming more agile. Latest in upbeat & funky music. Typical Class Structure: warm-up stretch/basic steps/dance combo/muscle strengthening and cool down.

Beginning Pre-Teen
This high energy and fun class is geared to work on flexibility, upper body strength, tricks and how to get the beat without fear. For ages 11 up. Typical Class Structure: warm-up/basic steps/dance routine/muscle strengthening/cool-down.

Advanced Intermediate
Competitive class by Audition only.

Color Levels Hip-Hop
This class is for students who want to focus on the pure enjoyment of an intense hip hop class, focusing on strength, agility, showmanship and developing your own personal style. This class by audition only. Typical Class Structure: warm-up/stretching/basic steps/dance routine/muscle strengthening/cool down.


Ballet Department - Class Descriptions

Creative Movement
An introduction to dance and rhythem. Age: 3-4 years. Must be pre-registered. Class size is limited.

Princess Ballet
An introduction to rhythem with props and basic Ballet movements. Age: 4-5 years. Must be pre-registered. Class size is limited.

Pre-Ballet
An introduction to Ballet technique and structure. Age: must be in Kindergarten. Should have 2 years of class. Dancers begin barre exercises.

Elementary
For students with 2+ years or 3+ years of Ballet technique. Age: 6+ years and 8+ years.

Intermediate
For student with 4+ years of strict Ballet technique and training. Must take twice weekly.

Advanced
For students with 6+ years of strict Ballet technique and training. Must take twice weekly. Age: 14+ years. Placement by audition only.

Ballet Enhancement
Required for all Advanced Jazz Students and Competition Jazz students not taking regular ballet classes. Advanced Hip-Hop students have the option to take either Ballet Enhancement or appropriate Jazz Technique Class. Placement by instructor.
